Margaret's Garden

Margaret would like to thank all club members and friends of Rós Tapestry who turned up on a damp drizzly day, well shod and in picnic mode!

"Ye made a fantastic contribution of over €1600 to Rós Tapestry for which they are very grateful. I was so delighted it was possible to have the open day so people could at least  see and chat to lots of fellow club members,  even at a distance! We continue to live in extraordinary times."
 
These are some of those who enjoyed the visit. 

​Driving up the mature tree lined avenue you will see the lower pond, marked on old maps in dogleg shape!
As it was always getting choked up, overgrown, and dried out in summer a liner in rectangular shape was put in in 2010. So now the depth of water is constant up to 5ft! Some trees to note in this area are the Variegated Tulip, Handkerchief, Indian Bean, Hoheria, Embothrium, Aesculus parviflora (bottlebrush Buckeye) Paulownia and Bhutan pine.
Close to the 1830’s house are the mixed perennial/shrub borders and the orchard and rose area. Verbena bonariensis has been given its freedom in a gravel area. In fact, I am happy to let things seed around as you will see! The white hydrangea border is surrounded by box.  Paths lead to the fishpond and seating section.
 You will then go through the white gates to the half-acre I call “The Park”. Originally a haven for pet lambs, in 1993 I made a few paths with the lawn mower and started planting! Notable trees here are the Laburnocytisis, Gleditsia, Tulip, Koelreuteria, Acer griseum, Magnolia grandiflora and Eucryphia nymansensis.
Then if you like Echiums you are in clover! With a little help from me they are marching up the back drive to the farmyard and encroaching a little on the laurel lawn!
